The night before the adventure tour of Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu you will have a pre-trek talk (brieffing in your hotel with the guide at agreed time).
Day 1 of the Inca Trail: From Cusco to Wayllabamba
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cuzco and drive you to Km. 82 in Urubamba valley. Here we start the first day of trekking adventure to the Inca city of Patallacta which is a town in the heights of this Andean region. After a short visit to this archaeological group, we will continue the Inca Trail Trek towards Wayllabamba (prairie – green place) where we will camp at 3000 m.
Day 2 of the Inca Trail: Wayllabamba, Pacaymayu and Runkuraccay
This morning we will get to the highest pass of the Inca trail adventure, the area of Warmihuañusca which means "Dead Women" at 4208 m. From there you will appreciate the snow-capped mountains of the Salcantay Mountain Range. Then we will continue our way down the Inca Trail to Pacaymayo Valley. The next pass will be Runkuracay which are ruins which have the shape of an oval building and from where we will have a spectacular watch over at 3860 m. and appreciate the magnificent Inca trail and later will have camping night in the place.
Day 3 of the Inca Trail: Runkuruccay, Phuyupatamarca and Wiñayhuayna
After having our breakfast we will begin the last part of the Inca Trail adventure; this time will trek to Sayacmarca, a small archaeological group near the complex of Puyupatamarca also known as the Town above the Clouds at 3650 m. Here we will observe a fantastic sample of the Inca stone masonry. We will go on trekking the Inca Trail down to Wiñayhuayna, place which is also known as Young For Ever; here we will appreciate the beautiful fountains and terraces at 2800 m. Camping night.
Day 4 of the Inca Trail: Wiñayhuayna, Grand tour of Machu Picchu and train back to Cuzco
Early this morning we will hike towards Intipunku (the Gate of the Sun). At this point with the help of the sunrise and if weather permits, we will have the first and amazing view of the Citadel of Machu Picchu Sanctuary. Here you will have a guided tour of the world’s most famous archaeological group - the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.
Note for the Inca Trail Adventure: Depending on your energy, you can also climb Huayna Picchu (2720m/8890ft)! (It takes about 45 minutes to reach the top).
You will meet your guide in Aguas Calientes (it can be reached by bus or on foot) for lunch and to be given your train tickets back to Cuzco. The train usually leaves between 2.30 pm and 6pm depending on Peru Rail allocations.
If desired, an extra night in Aguas Calientes can be arranged. This option is very popular as it allows more time to explore Machu Picchu. You can also go to the thermal springs in the town - a real treat after finishing the Classic Inca Trail Adventure to Machu PIcchu!
The Classic Inca Trail Adventure Includes:
- Professional, bilingual Tour Guide
- Assistant Tour Guide (for groups of 9 or more people)
- Pick up time 05:00 at hotel in Cusco. The tour starts and finishes at your hotle in Cusco.
- Transportation: bus to kilometre 82 and train and bus back to Cuzco.
- Water (only for first 4 hours of trek, then we will provide you with drinking-previously boiled- water).
- Entrance fee to Inca Trail and Machu Picchu.
- 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 3 afternoon snacks, 3 dinners (breakfast on day 1 + lunch in Aguas Calientes are not included).
- Cook, Dining tent with tables and chairs.
- Tents, Sleeping mattresses (it is carried by the tourists if no extra porter is hired).
- Porters (they carry cooking and camping equipment).
- Bus trip from Machu Picchu down to Aguas Calientes.
- Oxygen bottle, First Aid kit.
- Vegetarian food on request at no extra cost!
Important for your Inca Trail Adventure to Machu Picchu:
Basic hotels and Train service can be upgraded if desired for an increased price. You will carry your own personal belongings and the box lunch provided. To qualify as a student, it is necessary to have a valid ISIC card.
What you need to take for the Inca Trail Trek:
- Original passport (and *International Student card (ISIC card) if applicable).
- Travel Insurance is recommended.
- Sleeping bag (not included and it is carried by the tourists if no extra porter is hired).
- Walking boots, Waterproof jacket/rain poncho, Warm jacket, Hat and gloves.
- T-shirts, Comfortable trousers, Sun hat.
- Sun protection cream (factor 35 recommended), Insect repellent, Toiletries and hand sanitizer.
- Water (only until lunch time on day 1), Personal medication.
- Camera and films, Torch with spare batteries (headlamps are useful).
Optional items to take on your Inka Trail Trek:
- Shorts, Plasters and bandages, Extra money, Bathing suit (for hot springs in Aguas Calientes).
